A biomechanical "doll" or homunculus of equine appearance created from both magic and technology, the Lightmare is the living embodiment of the Elements of Harmony. Originally from a parallel dimension connected to Equestria, she possesses both wings and a horn, but is not an alicorn, she is something else entirely. She possesses the ability to traverse both the physical realm and the spirit world, and as such can step inside peoples' dreams...her kind was created for the sole purpose of destroying fear in the hearts of humans and ponies alike, and bringing comfort to those stricken by fear and nightmares. She, and by extension all lightmares, are essentially pony guardian angels. Her sleek body is partially covered with a flexible exoskeleton of a smooth, white material, with fittings of a shining, gold-colored alloy of unknown composition. Her wings, as you may notice, are bigger and fluffier than mortal pegasus wings, and a glowing, magic crystal orb in each wing generates an antigravity spell that enables the Lightmare to fly at great speed. All of her vital systems are pneumatically powered by an unknown substance that has properties of both light/energy and gas...this gas is stored in compressed form in reservoirs that take up the bulk of her front legs, and the mid-section of her body fills up with the substance when she's active. This gas can be converted into energy to power her magic components, or can be channeled into her horn to be used as a weapon...she is capable of shooting beams or bolts of magic energy from her horn, in addition to the standard unicorn telekinesis. Her entire midsection and most of her body can firm up or soften at will, as she generally makes herself rigid to withstand the punishment of fighting monsters and other denizens of bad dreams, but soft, cuddly and squeezable when comforting people in distress. She is the ultimate companion for those who suffer from recurring nightmares, hence her name.
Yep, followed Keith Thompson's 'Character Design Techniques" DVD, right down to the Photoshop color glazing...doubt Keith's ever drawn a pony before, though.
Thank you! She will hopefully be cast alongside two other female OCs of mine and a ton of official ponies including the mane six, the alicorn sisters and Cadence, in a potential fanfic project I may start writing, based around lightmares. It will have a total of twenty-five mares as the heroines of the story...that's a lot, isn't it?
